An action serves as a stimulus to a response and can be monitored through sense of touch. Sensitivity is the term which describes the ability to be aware of what is happening through sense of touch. The goal of developing sensitivity is t get an instant and accurate assessment to immediately and effectively attack the opponent in a combative situation.
Sensitivity training in martial arts is not just about being aware about where the next punch is coming from. When discussing the question of sensitivity attached to martial arts the question of what to do when there is no physical contact arises. When there is no contact one should gauge the contact for stimuli. Sensitivity plays a much important role and is a primary way to recognize the moves of your opponent.
Sensitivity does not come naturally to most people. It has to be cultivated. In order to be sensitive one must remain relaxed so that he or she can feel the opponents overall position and intent. Cultivating sensitivity is one of the major keys in becoming an effective fighter.
In martial arts there is a clear distinction between self-preservation and self –perfection.
Practice and training with an open heart and mind can shelve the skepticism. Be mindful of your environment everyday and in every way. Practice the art of sensitivity and you will master the influx of new sensations and changes in the surroundings when on play. Change out your training partners as often as feasible, familiarity can influence the results. The ability to repress ego has to be one of the abilities in martial arts. Martial training is something that requires a long term and sober commitment.
It is a simple fact that no one can learn to develop the sympathetic senses without continual training and martial science. One has to have a highly develop sensitivity and a deep understanding of human psychology and motivations. Practice the art and be a master in the skill.
